During the Worldwide Developers Conference earlier this month, Apple gave a keynote speech. During that speech, the company shared a variety of features that consumers should expect from the new iOS 11 release.

“iOS 11 gives iPad users the powerful app functionality they need to take advantage of everything iPad is capable of,” Craig Federighi, Apple’s senior VP of Software Engineering, said during the speech. “[It] brings hundreds of new features and incredible updates to the iOS apps iPhone and iPad users enjoy every day.”

Some of these features include:

(1) Apply Pay

This application will allow users to send and receive money through messages. Like Google Wallet, the app involves little or no fees and connects to an Apply Pay Cash account. Users can transfer money to a bank account or simply use the money as payment in compatible stores.

(2) Siri Updates

In this update, Siri will gain new male and female voices. These completely computer-generated voices will be more expressive and clear than their counterparts. They will also be able to translate English to languages such as Spanish and Mandarin. In addition, the new “Siri” will offer personalized suggestions based on search history.

(3) Do Not Disturb

By adding this feature, Apple is responding to the dangers of texting and calling while driving. Users can choose to enable the application, which will detect when a user is behind the wheel. When driving is detected, all notifications are silenced and the screen stays dark.

(4) Screen Recording

Reddit users found a screen recording feature while testing the iOS 11 software. The feature will allow users to capture phone activity. From there, they will be able to edit and add annotations for context.

(5) Apple Maps

It’s been years since Apple introduced its own Maps application – a release that was completely unable to compete with Google Maps (functionally, at least). Finally, the company has taken Apple Maps to the next level in iOS 11 by adding in-lane guidance and speed limit information. You can also find indoor maps for major airports and shopping centers, making on-foot travel easier for users everywhere.

(6) Slick App Store

It’s been several years since the app store was given a makeover. Now, it has a journalistic vibe with a bold and easy-to-use design filled with useful content. The editor picks apps from your favorite genres to suggest. Plus, the store is split into three separate and unique pages for your convenience.

(7) New Control Center

The control center has gone through a complete and total redesign. Not only does it look nicer (and, perhaps, prettier), but everything is located on one page. This is arguably the biggest change presented in iOS 11, according to, considering how often people interact with the control center.

These are just seven of the newest iOS 11 features. There will be dozens more come release day, which is expected to take place later in 2017. The exact date is still unknown.
